IT’S been interesting to hear the views of some of the more seasoned councillors recently over what will happen in the aftermath of May’s council elections. The thought bubbles I’ve intruded on say that no party in Camden has it in them to cross the threshold of 28 councillors, the winning post that would allow them to claim an overall majority – so we could be looking at another coaliition partnership. It’s being described as the ‘gridlock’ scenario.
The Lib Dems, at least, will publicly tell you otherwise. But if the target isn’t hit and the Lib Dems and Labour are making pacts nationally, could hatchets be buried and a similar deal be made locally? Could we even be looking at a rainbow coalition where all three main parties have some sort of stake? There’s a lot to play for and every seat in every ward will count.
