MUST be a tough life doing the diary pages on the nationals: Get in. Read local papers. Go home.
Take last week”s Daily Telegraph which tells us that Sue MacGregor, the former presenter of Today, has raised concerns about big screen football being shown in Regent’s Park. Is it just a coincidence that Sue said exactly the same things to journalist Jamie Welham calling from the Camden New Journal days earlier? What are the chances of her coming up with the exact same quotes when the Tel rang her up?
Nobody where I work is naive enough to find a bit of lifting surprising. It happens all the time. The journalism food chain can work both ways, sometimes locals stories sprout from national stories. I guess it just might be nice if The Telegraph did what other nationals have done in the past and credit which paper provided the inspiration for their diary notes.
