Did I mention that I used to be a policeman?

George Lee, Holborn and St PancrasPROOF reading test: How many times in Tory parliamentary candidate George Lee’s diary for ConservativeHome does he mention the fact he used to be a police officer? Check it out HERE. Is it three? Four? Five? Perhaps the most interesting mention is the section about the treatment for police officers hurt in the Broadwater Farm riots dispensed by the Whittington Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department. Food for thought for us all right now – and another chance for George to remind us of his days in uniform.

I can’t tease George too much, though, as he’s already got one over on me. When I met him for the first time a few months ago now, I questioned whether as an outsider for the Holborn and St Pancras seat he would benefit from much attention from the Conservatives’ central office, whether frontbenchers would visit  the constituency. I stirred: Will you be able to get David Cameron down? He scribbled my question down on a notepaper as we chatted in a Hampstead cafe and within a couple of weeks DC was down shaking hands with him. His online diary shows the pair have met again in recent weeks.
