The Mayor’s coffee break

StarbucksALSO on that list of  shadow cabinet-heavy  ‘key engagements’ undertaken by London Mayor Boris Johnson in the last four weeks is a meeting – presumably over coffee – with Starbucks global chief executive Harold Schultz. The papers simply says they met to discuss ‘issues related to business’.

But sshsh! Don’t tell Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, who last year was widely reported to have been annoyed at Schultz’s downbeat assessment of the UK economy and the apparent ‘spiral’ that was leading to less coconut lattes being bought. “Why should I have that guy running down the country? Who the f#@! is he?,” Lord M is supposed to have said at a stormy cocktail party. Boris obviously feels he deserves a warmer welcome.
