Lee: ‘I once voted for the Lib Dems’

FIRST Conservative candidate Chris Philp (Hampstead and Kilburn) recalls how he voted Liberal Democrat in a past election. Now, his counterpart in the south of the borough George Lee (Holborn and St Pancras) tells me he once did too. ‘I was a big Paddy Ashdown fan,’ he confessed to me at the Surma Centre during a late lunch today. ‘But it’s the Conservative party that clearly represent my values now.’

Interesting too: He wouldn’t say whether he would stick around in Holborn and St Pancras and give it a second try if he isn’t elected on May 6. A tricky question – he answered: ‘This is my first time in politics, let’s see how it goes first.’ Previous Conservative candidates in the area have been rewarded for their efforts with safer constituencies on a second run, including Margot James in Stourbridge – and John Major, who lost in Holborn but ended up at Number 10. GL for PM?
