Unmask this tribal, bankrupt brute

FORMER New Statesman editor John Kampfner and Shadow MP Jo Shaw teamed up to kick off the final furlong in her battle to cause an election night shock and unseat Frank Dobson in Holborn and St Pancras. An account of tonight’s adoption meeting is almost immediately posted online by Jonathan Fryer, the former Hampstead Town candidate now tasked with the unenviable task of trying to raise Lib Dem interest in Poplar and Limehouse.

He reports:

His (Kampfner’s) verdict on the Labour Party today was that it is ‘tribal, brutish and ideologically bankrupt’, which Jo Shaw said reminded of her of a particular Camden Labour councillor, who had better remain nameless.

Now, who could Jo have been referring to? If it’s a round of that classic kids game Guess Who – then my first questions are: Is he tall? Is he balding? Does he have glasses?

Hey – great to see a Lib dem kicking off their campaign with a smear. Their true colours at last out in the open, I’d say.

There are 15 of us in the Labour group, so…lemme get back to you.

  2. John Kampfner? With enemies like that, who needs friends?

Jo Shaw uses some pretty strong language about us (Labour), and has done in the past – so although this is an offguarded comment, it isn’t a one-off.

It’s strange because hardly any of us have ever actually met her, she usually loiters about at the back at various events. I can only speculate that by dubbing her opponents ‘rude’ etc she’s trying to manufacture moral highground for her supporters or personal sympathy for herself.

I’m not sure where Jo is from, because I’d never seen her around Camden community politics before she decided to stand after displacing the more popular Jill Fraser in 2005.

But like her colleague Ed Fordham’s ‘dirtying’ of Glenda Jackson’s record as a constituency MP, Jo has followed a similar course in personally undermining Frank Dobson – such as distorting his voting on ID cards (he was against) and his record more generally.

We’ll see how well she does with this tactic, but as you are clearly a betting man Richard I wager she will come nowhere near Jill’s 10,000 vote in 2005!

  4. ” ahhhh – poor little LibDems…. they are only different in so much as they want to plunge us headlong into Europe (but ssshh, don’t tell the electorate!), soak the rich, and tell whatever lies at local level they need to in order to get elected.

Down our way ……they are the most petty, spiteful, deceitful and spin…eless little people …
    (See Moreimaginable)

They actually manage to unite the Conservate & Labour cllrs in their contempt for the wretched LibDems.

Leave them in the cold as a dumping ground for protest votes please, until they grow up and start behaving with integrity”
