Labour Lions youth team 02/03
SO how come there’s no women councillors on the Labour Party’s teamsheet for the charity football match against the Camden New Journal next week? Well…. oof!…
…silly. These snaps are resurrected from a lovely day up at Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town – most would agree the facility is perhaps one of the best achievements in Labour’s recent history in Camden – back in summer 2003.
Politicians from all parties and a few reporters took to the field that weekend. Here, Labour councillors Anna Stewart (she has since left the council) and environment chief Sue Vincent made a front page New Journal picture with an ice pack and sling. Some bullies from down the road had got too competitive. Not us. They saw the funny side.
Twas ages ago. And we know it’s ages ago because Raj Chada, before his stint chiefing the Labour group, is on the pitch looking like the stress and strain of leadership is all ahead of him. At the peaks of his football ability (we hope, looking ahead to next week’s game at Haverstock), some have suggested he looks like he could qualify for the Youth Council in this shot.
Ah the Young Lions…
Was that the one where instead of sliced oranges at half time, we handed out Pork Pies in honour of the Lib Dems’ ability to tell massive whoppers in their leaflets? Maybe that was Malden Road the year after.
except the Youth Council didn’t exist back in 02/03…
No the Youth Council only got going after a Liberal Democrat initiative from yours truly…
