ANYBODY with a heart for the Labour Party’s past or admiration for a genuine campaigning journalist will be at a special memorial event in honour of the late Michael Foot on Monday night. The special event at the Lyric Theatre in the West End will see relatives, friends and colleagues speak fondly of the sage from Pilgrim’s Lane in Hampstead.
Labour leader Ed Miliband, a Foot fan who was at his funeral earlier this year, can’t guarantee his attendance however. He may well excuse himself because by then he could be signed off on paternity leave. Partner Justine Thornton apparently has a November 5 (this Friday) due date for the Dartmouth Park couple’s new son.
Then again, those oracles at William Hill reckon the little ‘un will take its time to join the party. In a market that proves you can lose your money on anything, the bookies are offering odds on whether mini-Mil will arrive early, late or bang on time. 4/6 still gives Papa Miliband a chance of making the Lyric…
