To protest, or not to protest

CRUNCH time at Camden Council with the budget-setting big one next week. Disagreements ahead of the meeting, I hear, within the Labour group as to whether councillors should be seen among the crowds inevitably protesting outside. Several want to avoid a repeat of the last time councillors met objectors on the steps of the Town Hall, where leader Nash Ali and cabinet heavies stood on one side of the road with a megaphone and protesters were penned behind fences on the other. That wasn’t a great look for the exec councllors wanting to avoid a them and us situation developing.
