The fight for Chalk Farm Road
THE looters have come to Camden. I’m standing at the Lock. LA1 fashion shop is almost completely ransacked. Chalk Farm Sainsbury’s and Evans Cycles were early casualties. Chalk Farm Road has been the scene of a pitched battle between police and crowds of youths in hoods and scarves. They took turns charging at each other. The teenagers with wine bottles, the police with riot shields. Right now, the police have ‘retaken’ Chalk Farm Road but crowds of youths still gathered in sidestreets. More later.
Take care of yourself Richard. I’ve been hearing on the new of middle-aged on-lookers being attacked for not being seen to fit in with the crowd.
Hey Richard,
have you had the chance to talkto any of these rioters- even just to get a superficial impression as to what kind of people they are?
This is not frustration – it is mindless destruction
Feral youths; criminal thugs; a British made problem; mindless destruction; betrayed generations – just some of the quotes from BBC 1 lunchtime today. The debate just goes on.
What drives a young person to mindless destruction of personal property? Do they understand the difference between right and wrong – do they care? Why not?
