Whitney Houston’s ‘romance’ in Camden Town

POP fact of the day: The video for poor old Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You was filmed in Camden Town. Right there, in the big Foxtons you walk past to get to Regent’s Park or London Zoo… although it wasn’t Foxtons back in 1985.

Design House, the quirky glass-fronted building at the top of Parkway now used by the mini-driving estate agents, is the setting for a bit of a will-they won’t-they story as Whitney torments herself over a married music producer. This married music producer can be seen strolling into the building at 1m32secs in fetching 1980s white chinos. It’s a bit schmaltzy to be her best song – I’m more of ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ man, myself – but tell your friends Whitney was here, right here in our hood. She made some scorching records; I like the idea of her having a pint in the Dublin Castle a few doors down after filming or grabbing some pasta at Goodfare in her lunch break, even if it probably didn’t work out like that.
