LAZZARO Pietragnoli was confirmed as the Labour Party candidate for the Camden Town and Primrose Hill by-election on Thursday night. The poll hasn’t actually been officially announced but outgoing councilllor Tom Neumark insists delaying his resignation will save tax-payers ‘thousands’ by allowing the ballot to take place on the same day as the London elections.
Look away now, however, if you are a royalist… In a twisting Twitter discussion with councillors about the potential for upping the number of Italian links at the Town Hall should Lazzaro win through, Labour’s candidate reels at the idea of addressing the Queen as ‘Her Majesty’. Anybody who does is ‘sanctimonious’, according to the libraries campaigner.
Scroll down through the conversation, which begins with congratulations for winning the selection contest, and you will see that by the end Conservative Juventus fan and Frognal councillor Gio Spinella seems rather shocked. He’d only asked who Lazzaro meant by ‘Old fart Betty’.
