Man with beard spotted at Olympic show jumping

ONE of the best features of the Olympics (in our office at least) has been Camden Council leader Sarah Hayward’s genuinely, genuinely excited Twitter commentary, a full-blooded support for Team GB and a display of marvellous affection for the London Games as a whole. If you are suffering Olympics fatigue, seriously, she’s the woman to recharge the batteries for the final straight. You can see ‘totes want a GB tracksuit’ and other gems in last week’s New Journal.

But who’s this guy with the beard at the show-jumping? Catching snatches, of the coverage Sarah suggested Conservative Party’s opening ceremony grump Adrian Burley MP might be shuddering at the sight of the ‘bust of Karl Marx from Highgate Cemetery’ on one of the obstacles. She later accepted in Twitter conversation it could be Charles Dickens… Any other guesses?

  1. Surely it’s Charles Darwin? The rest of the imagary provides further clues … ship in tropical island, exotic animals?

Of course it is. Three points to Cllr Convery.

  3. It is Charles Darwin

  4. PS Maybe I should post a pic of me with my Team GB umbrella.

      Of course it’s Charles Darwin!

The old boy must be spinning up in Highgate!

Proof that Sarah doesn’t know her Marx from her Darwin.
