An extra reason to ‘Save The Cock’

WORRYING times: is rail union chief Bob Crow going to run out of places to have an after work pint? He is backing the campaign to defend the wonderfully old fashioned Cock Tavern in Somers Town in hard times. The pub, near the RMT’s offices, was given the beautifully bittersweet description of the ‘waiting room for Leverton’s’ this week, a place to comfortably see out your silver-haired years before a date with Camden’s funeral directors.

Its predicament is both sad and worrying for anybody who wants that unique neighbourhood to retain some old time charm amid the rush of developments just a few streets east.

But what of Bob? The need to save the Cock is surely even more pressing for him. The oft-recalled story is that he and colleagues were barred from the nearby Somers Town Coffee House pub for ‘loud singing’ shortly after its deluxe gastro refit a few years back. He’ll be running out of options if the fight to save the Cock goes the wrong way.
