You CAN film in the Town Hall

IMPORTANT news for journalists (and I guess everybody else too with a cameraphone): You CAN film in the Town Hall whenever you like, as long as it is in the public areas of the building.

It seems security staff yesterday wrongly ordered New Journal reporter Tom Foot to stop taking footage on his phone of a protester handcuffed to the front desk of Camden Council’s reception. We asked for clarification as to why he had been asked to stop and the response came back that there is no policy banning filming.

“The policy is that filming in public areas of the Town Hall is permitted,” a press official confirmed. There you go: Print this page out and show it to the security staff if you run into the same misunderstanding.
