Camden gets its half-mast flag for Thatcher

buckersTHE Conservatives had their request for a minute’s silence for Baroness Thatcher at last night’s full council meeting rejected. Camden had already decided against flying its Town Hall flag at half mast for her. So, Councillor Jonny Bucknell being Councillor Jonny Bucknell took matters into his own hands. He arrived yesterday, a little scorched across the brow from a spot of snow-boarding abroad last week, with his own mini-flag at half mast to put on the desk at his council chamber seat. Here he is showing it off with pride.

It takes some balls to do that at that moment, given if you swung the camera around you’d see 30 benefit protesters – no fans of Thatcher – chanting and picketing the council on the pavement on the steps outside the Town Hall.

By the way, we also learned here what’s fuelling Jonny and his ward colleague Claire-Louise Leyland, whose neighbourly performance at ward level in Belsize might be a worry for the Lib Dems at next year’s boroughwide elections. Opponents sketch Tories as millionaire caviar, foie gras and champagne types. Not Jonny and CLL. They stocked up on treats from Burger King and McDonalds ahead of a long evening of the usual all member point-scoring, a yawn which is almost becoming a parody of itself and increasingly shunned by a bored public.

Such a shame that respect for a ong serving Priminister could not be shown by our Labour collegues.

Well done to Jonny for his one man act of defiance.

The Lib Dems are not only worrying about Belsize (and they should be) their little botty’s are squeaking all over the Borough.I ask myself after May 2014 will they still “agree with Nick”?

Many in the public galleries, many deputations at last night’s full council meeting, as ultimately the level of public apathy in the borough at present might be an even bigger worry in the run up to next year’s local election!!!!!!!
