LABOUR didn’t need David Miliband to hold South Shields last night. It won there like it always wins there. It has won there whoever has worn the red rosette for decades. Still, given yesterday’s parliamentary by-election was triggered by his resignation and move to the United States, some might have thought the international rescuer would have been in the thick of the South Shields action throughout polling day.
But I spy this on Facebook: a post which says the former Foreign Secretary was actually supping lattes in the glorious Camden Town sunshine? Can that really have been him in Nero? On election day?
