LABOUR Party members demonstrating against fire cuts raised their marching flag a couple of weeks ago. Their emblem for these events is the St Pancras chambers. A friend cheekier than me (she knows who she is) asked them on the day of the protest whether the old standard might need updating, given the shifting scene in King’s Cross.
She got a puzzled look.
Members, who think themselves the rootsy, lefty, marching, voice-of-the-people types, were then reminded they were now rolling around with an image of a £400-a-night St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and luxury flats snapped up by models and millionaires. Up the revolution and all that!
