Spot the green roof

news072910_16

WELL done to the Telegraph last week for dispensing of the familiar ‘BRIGHTON BEACH YESTERDAY’ pictures to illustrate Britain’s soaraway heatwave temperatures – and switching to a view of the Oasis leisure centre’s rooftop lido in Holborn (see below) instead.

But did the bird’s eye view reveal a little bit of disaster for Camden Council?

The estate next door, Camden’s first green roof doesn’t seem to be holding up so well in the sweltering conditions. Some of the green seems to have disappeared altogether. More a brown roof in parts. It’s only a few years since the council sent us the picture above – the roof looking lush and green – and persuaded us to re-write their press release celebrating how the grassy top would keep homes at Dudley Court warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

  1. Clutching at straw Richard? Wild grasses/plants die when there’s no water/rain and grow when it’s wet again. Nice pic though. My son now wants a garden on the roof in Sydney (suspect it’d be even more green (read brown).

You sound like you’re homesick already Mr Graves

    • Of course, at times, I do miss friends, family, and places in the UK and I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Councillor in Belsize. It was an actual honour to serve all those people and I miss many of them. Home though is where the heart is, and mine is firmly in Sydney. Trust you are well? Keep up the good work.
