AS noted earlier this week, Chris Philp finds out tomorrow whether he will be the Conservative PPC for Tonbridge and Malling tomorrow night.
If he misses out there, however, he can at least take heart from the fact he has made the long-list in Croydon South too. Not bad going if the reports of 400 applications being received for the role are true.
To win there, Chris, a former councillor in Gospel Oak, would have to pip another potential candidate looking to graduate from Camden’s green benches: Councillor Laura Trott.
Laura has already made clear she will not seek re-election in next May’s council elections and, with her name already popping up in the nationals every now and then due to her adviser job at Downing Street, she has long been tipped to make the upgrade from the Town Hall.
It is actually her spad work which local Tories use to explain her sparse vocal contributions at Camden’s full council meetings since her election in the party’s safest ward three and a half years ago, with friendly members insisting that she has sometimes felt restricted.
Also on the 15-strong long list is Lucy Frazer, a campaigner from Hampstead and Kilburn. Richard Ottaway is the MP in Croydon vacating the seat.
