CHRIS Philp can surely start thinking about how he wants to fit out his parliamentary office now. The former Gospel Oak councillor has won the Croydon South nomination tonight, a surefire Conservative seat. Finally, we will be able to stop going on about his 42 vote defeat to Glenda Jackson in Hampstead and Kilburn on that amazing election night/morning back in 2010. Laura Trott, a councillor in Frognal who works as a special adviser to David Cameron, did not advance past the longlist, but she wasn’t alone in that disappointment: Kit Malthouse and Shaun Bailey also missed the cut when the numbers were whittled.
