Carve-up cock-up on the council’s wall of fame

photoWITH the Conservatives installed once more as the official opposition in Camden, the engravers were sent to the Town Hall recently to carve Claire-Louise Leyland’s name into the Judd Street marble for posterity.

It’s always a nice marker for our councillors of note, a sort of embossed walk of fame left for future generations to see.

Sadly, for the Tory group leader, when she looks up at her new entry she will see her vast body of qualifications, which councillors have the option of including, has been rather watered down.

CLL could actually have many more letters stamped into the wall after her name – they’d probably need to go onto another line to fit all of her academic achievements in. But the eagle-eyed will know that she isn’t simply a mere BSc. She is a master of psychotherapy and that B really should be an M, for an MSc.

She’s not making a big thing of it, but mortified council staff were this afternoon trying to fix a date for the engravers to come back and put things right.

All a bit pretentious. I note that Keith Moffitt’s degree is not listed, and I am not sure any qualifications for anyone should be there. No councillor gets elected because of their qualifications so why should they be listed at all?

I can think of many former Members who had multiple qualifications but this did not make them any better as councillors.

And for the record I also have a BA degree and PGCE but I never flaunt these in public…

Interesting one this. As you’ll see, the trend in recent years has been for leaders of the opposition not to list their various postnominals, and the same has applied to recent leaders. A notable exception was Mayor Sadashivrao Nanasaheb Deshmukh, fondly known as “Desh”, who had to have an extra line to accommodate his impressive string of postnominals.

  3. OMG! An ‘ology’. At least CLL has one…
