THERE was a yellow card for Labour backbencher Awale Olad at Monday’s full card. He swiftly apologised after Mayor Lazzaro Pietragnoli pulled him up on his use of the the term ‘heartless bastards’ during a rant about the Tories approach to the NHS. He told the chamber: “It’s quite disgraceful that the Tories and NHS England are pursuing this agenda. It’s all about how much money you can cash in from private developers. We’ve got Boris Johnson punching us from the right, we’ve got Jeremy Hunt punching us from the left…. this Tory government are a bunch of heartless bastards.”
What an example to set for his recently-elected colleague James Yarde, the youngest councillor Labour has ever had in Camden, sitting behind and bearing the startled look of a man whose wondering whether what’s just been is going to be allowed to stand.
