McPoisin laments the missing man at O’Reilly’s

oreillysIT’S not everyday that the Camden New Journal gets a traffic-spurting web link from the Guido Fawkes’ order-order blog, but those rascals couldn’t resist flagging up former Labour spin doctor Damian McBride’s thoughts about the demise of O’Reilly’s – one of the few pubs that was left in Kentish Town without a leather sofa and a swordfish lunch.

Gordon Brown’s former special adviser –  McPoison, as he became known for his spin doctor strategies – has struck up a long-held pub quiz team friendship with Conservative parliamentary candidate Will Blair, and together they saw out the pub’s final night on Sunday.

As the last orders bell tolled, where was Sir Keir Starmer?, Mr McBride asked the internet through Twitter, summoning a VoteBlair hashtag for the occasion.

Now I’m not sure whether Sir Keir, who is standing against Will in Holborn and St Pancras, knows where O’Reillys is/was or not, but it is fair enough to lament the missed opportunity of seeing the former Director of Public Prosecutions belt out Riiiiiiiiver Deep, Mountain High from a karaoke mic.
