The sound of silences: Natalie Bennett’s radio interview to forget

IT’S been a funny start to the week for Green Party leader (and Holborn and St Pancras candidate). One moment, she’s hanging with the cool kids, Sadie Frost and Paloma Faith, at Vivienne Westwood’s show for London Fashion Week. The next, she finds herself in perhaps her worst ever interview on LBC with Nick Ferrari. The term car crash interview gets used too much, but this one, even the Greens must feel, is a horror show.

It wasn’t even a case of Ferrari being difficult, as might have been suggested by some of the questions Andrew Neil asked Natalie recently on the Sunday Politics. He simply wanted to know how much a promised 500,000 new homes would cost – and where the money would come from. The silences make terribly awkward radio.
