I was a watching a documentary a while back, about a 1980s pop band reforming and its lead singer made an astute observation. “Back then” he said, “things were different. Fans wanted your autograph, or even better a signed photo. But now, all they want is a selfie with you. It’s not about us anymore”, he wistfully mused, “it’s all about them. We’re no longer the stars, they are”. Thank goodness an anti-war demonstration came along, to allow this couple of councillors to proclaim their virtue. We might not have known their worth, otherwise.
