YOU may think the Labour Party has been a toxic, mean and hateful place in recent weeks amid the polarised opinions over who should be in charge, but this evening I give you a story from within its local ranks of romance, love and… unity. For as members in Liverpool were today digesting the scale of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership victory today, one sweaty-palmed, nervous man up on Merseyside for the conference had something else on his mind.
Yup. Oliver Denton, the tall, food blog guy who helped mastermind Tulip Siddiq’s election win in Hampstead and Kilburn last May largely by making sure the photocopier was running all night and shouting out the orders from the campaign bunker in Kilburn High Road, was down on bended knee popping the big question to his girlfriend Anne Lieberman.
And if Oliver hadn’t taken on the job as Tulip’s trusted lieutenant – he was apparently recruited because he knew how to build her a website – this whole falling in love caper may never have happened. He first set eyes on Anne while they were both backing Tulip during a Mitzvah Day event in Hampstead during the campaign. While Tulip was singing to the old folk, Oliver’s eyeballs turned to love hearts and soon he was doing a different sort of canvassing. The general election of 2015 had found a love match right there in Team Tulip.
Oh, and you might have guessed from the picture. She. Said. YES.
