A POTENTIAL new blow for Labour’s Tulip Siddiq this afternoon after the final list of candidates in Hampstead and Kilburn revealed Ukip have bobbed the contest.
While Giles Game – last seen taking 75 votes in the Gospel Oak by-election – will stand for Ukip in Keir Starmer’s Holborn and St Pancras constituency, the party has not put up a candidate in the north of the borough. At the last two elections, the UKIP score has been bigger than Labour’s majority in Hampstead and Kilburn with Magnus Nielsen, no longer apparently in the party, scoring 1,532 votes.
Where will those votes go? Surely not to the anti-Brexit Lib Dems or Greens, or to Tulip, who voted against triggering Article 50. The Tories may not say it out loud but a potential boost could becoming their way… from Ukip voters happy with Theresa May’s determination to get the divorce done.
