Flick WILL run again

WILL she? Won’t she? Does she have a choice? Flick Rea has been a little less coy in recent weeks but she kept us guessing all summer as to whether she would run again in Fortune Green. Tonight, however, the Camden Lib Dems tweet the confirmation we were expecting and she will be on the ballot paper in May. It’s been a long and eventful ride: She has seen her party rise to lead a power-sharing administration in Camden and then fall to the low of being the only Lib Dem to survive the 2014 local election avalanche.

Even some Labour councillors admit the council chamber would not be the same without her and she clearly commands a personal vote in her ward; something very few councillors can genuinely claim, even if many of them have fooled themselves otherwise. All of this, however, is not stopping Labour trying to finally run her out in their quest for a near one-party state domination talked about in the last post. Flick’s running mates will be Tracey Shackle and Adrian Bridge. Labour have already re-selected sitting councillors Richard Olszewski and Lorna Russell, and are also fielding Sorin Floti.

Islington is a salutary lesson of the consequence of a Labour landslide.

Defeating Flick in Fortune Green would be a disaster for democracy and Camden would be diminished. We need Flick “up there on the wall!”.

Democracies NEED healthy opposition. As it is in Camden there are several indifferent, incompetent Councillors sitting in safe seats with nil threat to their tenure and in consequence the residents in their wards are ill-served.

Labour may understandably be seeking a whipe-out – but be careful what you pray for.

  2. “One green bottle” and all that, I have worked with Flick both as a Councillor and a Cabinet Member and she is more than tough enough to see off any challenge from candidates from any party. Flick has a huge personal following not only in her own ward but also from widely across the borough, if the unthinkable were to happen the council would be a poorer place without her.

  3. Well many would say she is more openly honest than the present incumbents and its no secret that Lorna and Richard’s REFUSAL to advance any socialism whatsoever has led many members to decline to canvass on their behalf. Many are tempted by the Greens rather than these QUISLINGS !!!

  4. Flick is the best Councillor in the whole of Camden – we need more like her. She has a genuine passion for the local community and has honesty, integrity and courage that so many Labour and Tories lack.
