MET Commissioner Cressida Dick took questions from London Assembly members on Tuesday and held her ground over the policing of the Extinction Rebellion protests. Andrew Boff had some needly questions about whether Sadiq Khan had any influence over strategy, while the police chief was asked to comment on the footage of a skateboarding officer on Waterloo bridge. No, Mr Khan had not tried to guide the operation, and yes, the carnival tone among some officers wasn’t always a great look.
But there was one question which led to a puff of the cheeks and a ‘gracious’. Green Party member/co-leader/councillor Sian Berry had asked whether the protesters who were arrested had been photographed, informed and possibly be kept on a ‘watchlist’.
The failsafe reserve, ‘I’ll write to you later’, came into play.
