Election Daily: Abdul Hai falls over

17 days to go

ICE BREAKER

THERE were probably a million bits of important local political news today but the only moment that mattered to me was the ice race fund-raiser for the CNJ‘s Christmas hamper appeal at Camden Market. See Thursday’s paper and the website for how Labtech, which manages the market, have donated generously to the collection. It means we will hopefully be able to get out to as many people as possible in the days before Christmas. It means a lot.

To mark their contribution this lunchtime, however, the company took on – and beat – the Camden New Journal in an ice skating relay race at their new Christmas rink in the Stables Market. Well done to them.

But then came the captain’s race: Abdul Hai versus me, to the wall and back….

Ho, ho, ho… Happy Christmas.

STROUD AND PROUD

SIOBHAN Baillie, the former Camden councillor looking to win in Stroud next month, had yet more help from former colleagues this weekend. Henry Newman, a current Frognal councillor, will have to hotfoot it back to Camden for tonight’s council meeting after helping out on the doorstep there. He’s pictured with Ms Baillie and Carrie Symonds, Boris Johnson’s partner, and her dog Dilyn.

Remember, the Conservatives are ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ at Hampstead and Kilburn…

IT WAS ALL YELLOW

LABOUR are hoping that soft Conservatives and Liberal Democrats may actually split themselves in Finchley and Golders Green, and somehow allow a path for their candidate Ross Houston to beat both Mike Freer and Luciana Berger. Some Labour canvassers need a bit of persuading over that prospect, as the constituency continues to be billed as Conservative v Lib Dem contest.

Even so, look away now if you’re one of the Labour canvassers on the street…
